Lacrosse Passing: How to Throw a Lacrosse Ball

Lacrosse is commonly accepted as America’s fasting growing sport. One of the most basic skills that a new player needs to possess is the ability to the pass and throw the ball accurately. There are a few steps that a player must ensure to do if they want to be successful.

The first thing a player must know is proper hand placement on the stick. If the player is right handed then the right hand belongs at the middle of the shaft and the left hand at the bottom. The same goes for left handed players but just switch the hands around but in the same placement. If the player is new to the game, make sure they choose the correct handedness. Many people may write with their right hand but play lacrosse with their left. After the hands are in the correct placement, it is now time to commence throwing. The player should put the stick parallel to the ground and over their shoulder (Right hand players over their right shoulder and left hand players over their left). Once this is done, the next step is for the player to take a step towards their target. Right handed players should step toward the target with their left foot and vice versa for the lefties. After the step players should push forward with their top hand and pull back with their bottom hand. After the motion of the throw is looking good, aiming their pass should be taught. The easiest way to throw an accurate pass is to focus on the follow through. The player should point the head of their stick directly at their target. If the head of the stick is pointing down after the throw, the ball will end up on the ground as well. Players should always remember to follow through at the target and have their hands in the correct spot.
